About your Teacher:

Jessica Rice was born in Del Rio, TX (on the border of Mexico) and lived there until the age of 10.  She grew up bilingual, learning Spanish from her mother and her relatives,  while her father spoke English.  She was surrounded by Spanish and was taught to show respect by replying to her Spanish speaking grandparents, and others, in Spanish.

When she became a mother herself she realized the importance of raising her own children in a bilingual environment.  Teaching her three children simple Spanish words became fun.  She became active in genealogy through serving as a genealogy consultant and discovered her own heritage to be rich with ancestors from Mexico.  Learning about her Hispanic lineage inspired her to preserve their precious history to share with her family and extended family.

She first taught Spanish at Morningside Elementary to grades 1-6.  She was later introduced to Music Lingua through Susanne Reutiman,  a former Great Falls resident who was a German and French Music Lingua instructor.  While watching one of Suzanne's classes, she was amazed as she watched the children sing the German words cheerfully and enthusiastically.  She decided to become a Music Lingua instructor herself.

Jessica says "The reward of being a Music Lingua teacher will be in knowing that I am making a difference in my community by teaching young impressionable minds.  The Music Lingua program offers a wonderful opportunity for me to speak and teach Spanish in other settings besides my own home!"
