Kristina Allison has a
Masters in Social Work and bachelors in Psychology. She has been working
for Thrive as a Parent Liaison in the Bozeman Public schools for 2 years.
Kristina studied Spanish
formally for seven years from middle school through college. In 2000
she moved to Geneva, Switzerland. There, while working as an English
editor for the United Nations, she took French courses at the UN Language
Department. After 3 years of formal study, she passed the United Nations
French language proficiency certification. She learned most of her
vernacular French chatting with the locals at the city park in Geneva while
walking her dog every morning. Her son was born in Geneva which taught her
a lot of vocabulary pertaining to pregnancy, birth and early childhood.
After
moving back to Bozeman, Kristina has tried to expose her son to as much of
the French language as possible. Her attempts to get him interested in the
language, however, were frustrated by a lack of context, and the task became
more and more difficult over time. Kristina noticed an enormous change in
her son’s interest in learning French after signing up for a Music Lingua
class. The language suddenly became “real” to him and, rather than
resisting, he began asking to learn more French vocabulary words.
This experience spurred Kristina on to an interest in becoming a Music
Lingua teacher herself: both to continue teaching the language to her child,
and to give other families and children the opportunity to learn
French. |
