About your teacher:

Karry Gonzales-Tu

¡Hola! My name is Karry Gonzales-Tu, and I have been surrounded by Spanish speaking people most of my life. I am originally from Socorro, New Mexico. My father and relatives on my father's side spoke Spanish all the time, so I heard a great deal of the Spanish language while growing up. Both of my parents influenced my love of cultural studies and language appreciation by making sure that we traveled extensively when I was growing up. In High School I studied Spanish, Russian and later in College majored in Spanish and French. I have traveled to Mexico as well as Spain and several other European countries.
I have an Elementary and Middle School endorsement and I have seven years teaching experience in both the regular transitional classroom in Denver as well as the pre-K-8th grade Spanish classroom in private schools and charter schools in Jefferson County. In teaching Spanish to several different age groups, I have become familiar with a wide variety of teaching styles and have used music and cultural studies to enhance my curriculum in the Spanish classes. I have extensive background knowledge in the cultural studies of both Mexico and the South Western United States.
My husband is from Viet Nam, and we have two children, both of whom are now in college. My own children grew up hearing not only English and Spanish, but Vietnamese and Chinese as well. Having studied so many languages, and being married to someone from Vietnam, I have come to realize the similarities between cultures, and love sharing this in my classes.
I have seen how young children respond to learning another language when it is combined with music and movement, and how it encourages their growth in other academic areas. I am very excited to be a member of the Music Lingua team!
